This year’s Assessing Progress in Africa towards the Millennium Development Goals uses the latest updated and harmonized data from United Nations Statistics Division—the official data repository for assessing progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It also uses data from United Nations agencies, the World Bank and statistical databases of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The main reason for using international
sources is that they collect and provide accurate and comparable data on MDG indicators across Africa. The irregularity of surveys and censuses, ages, definitions and methods of production of the indicators might explain the lag between the reporting year and the data years.
