The current edition of rural progress, is devoted, almost entirely, to the problems of drought and desertification in Africa. This issue contains the first publication of the regional plan of action to combat the impacts of drought in Africa. In this issue of rural progress, which has been concentrating on rural development, social welfare, human settlements and environmental problems in Africa over the years, it attempts to focus on drought and desertification and efforts which are being made at various levels to combat and/or seek alternative solutions to these man-made and natural calamities facing our continent.
