This document reviews the existing patterns of health system financing in the Region. This is a subject of particular importance to policy makers and the general public in view of the growing economic constraints and the increasing magnitude of health problems. Far from meeting the demand for health services, the regions' health systems are also having difficulty maintaining acceptable standards of health care.
