The promotion of the rights of women and young girls is among the principal objectives incorporated in the programme of action of the African Centre for Women. Despite the marked improvements that have materialized in the lives of African women since the liberation of African countries from the yoke of colonialism, inequality remains a reality, so does discrimination in the distribution of economic and social resources. The disadvantageous status of women, which has serious implications for the well-being of society as a whole, is considered as one of the causes of underdevelopment.
