Demographic statistics are the basis for the calculation of the
present and future needs of the population They are essential for the
consumption projections in goods and in services. Planning in the
realm of education.and health calls for data such as age distribution
and the birth and death rates. As often as not, the fixing of produc
tion targets requires knowledge about the size of the labour force and
its occupational structure.
