The aim of the present study is to analyze the development of the international monetary situation since August 1971andits impact on the trade of African countries. An attempt is also made to suggest measures to neutralize the harmful effects of the monetary situation on the economies of African countries. However, the study will not deal with the impact of the situation on the development of African countries, since that subject is better taken up for the group of developing countries as a whole.
