This paper attempts a review of problems of measurement and analysis of internal and international migration statistics in Africa. It should be noted that internal and international migration are similar in many respect. For example, both involve changes in residence either on a short or long-term basis. Their determinants (especially the dominance of economic factors) and consequences for areas of origin and destination are identical; however, there are subtle differences between the two movements. In areas where there are marked differences separate reviews have been undertaken. The paper consists of two main. Sections: Section II, on problems of migration measurement systems and Section III on problems of migration analysis.
